Frequently Asked Questions

We are committed to making it easier for you to schedule an appointment that fits your schedule. We will have an ample number of same day appointment slots for sick visits. You can also request appointments online through our patient portal.

We will strive to have a member of our staff answer the phone when you call for appointments, medical questions and billing issues (routine prescription refills are more conveniently filled through the voicemail system). Medical questions will be initially addressed by our nursing staff in consultation with the doctor.
With being a solo pediatric practitioner, Dr. Amin is on-call when the office is not open. As a result, after-hours phone calls may be addressed by a nursing triage service. Dr. Amin will continue to be available to the answering service in emergent situations requiring more attention than the answering service can provide.
When you arrive at Labor and Delivery, they will ask you whether you have selected a pediatrician.  Simply let them know that you have chosen Dr. Amin with Sandpiper Pediatrics.  If your child will be receiving Medicaid insurance after birth, we ask that you stop in to the office before the child is born to receive documentation from the office that we will be accepting your baby as a patient.  If this is not received from our office, you baby will be assigned a doctor.  With the distance our office is located from New Hanover Regional Medical Center, your baby’s care will be managed by pediatric hospitalists on staff.  If you desire a circumcision, the pediatric hospitalists will perform the procedure before discharge under normal circumstances.

We are accepting new patients.  If we are not an in-network provider for your insurance, we will still file your insurance for your convenience.  If you have Medicaid or Carolina Access, we require that the patient’s primary care provider be changed to Sandpiper Pediatrics.

We are in-network for: Blue Cross/Blue Shield (excluding Blue Value plans), Cigna, United Healthcare, Tricare, NC Medicaid/Carolina Access, North Carolina Health Choice, Medcost, Aetna, GEHA, Multiplan.

We respect your time and will strive to stay on time to limit wait times. Unfortunately, we cannot predict emergencies that arise or situations when a patient might require more time and attention. Most importantly, even if we are running late, at no time will we rush through your visit.
We keep all your pediatric records and health information strictly confidential. In order to assure that your privacy is maintained, a “Release of Information” form needs to be completed. A copy is this is found on our patient portal or by clicking here.
If you have a form (school physical form, sports physical form, camp physical, etc.) that needs to be completed by the office, please provide it to the nurse when you are brought back to the exam room. Routine forms will be completed while you are in the office. If you do not have an appointment scheduled and need a form completed, we will complete the form within 3 business days as long as your child is up-to-date on health maintenance appointments. Please be certain that all of the sections that are to be completed by the parent or guardian are completed before dropping the form off at the office. More complex forms, like FMLA forms, make take longer to complete.
